Global Smoking Statistics

Monday December 1, 2003

It's estimated that one out of every five teens aged 13-15 smokes. Evidence also indicates that half of the people who start smoking as adolescents will go on to smoke for 15 to 20 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports on worldwide tobacco statistics for the year 2002. The facts and stats are sobering....

Every year, four million people die worldwide from smoking-related diseases. That's approximately one person every 8 seconds. Every minute, 10 million cigarettes are sold worldwide. That amounts to 15 billion cigarettes sold every day.
