The Risks Associated with Smoking During Pregnancy

The chemicals from cigarette smoke in a mother's bloodstream are toxic to her unborn child. Research has shown that when a woman smokes during pregnancy, she increases the risk of a variety of complications, including premature delivery, low-birth-weight infants, stillbirth, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Quitting tobacco before pregnancy is a healthy choice, for both mother and child.
