Are Clove Cigarettes a Safe Smoking Alternative?

Monday January 26, 2009
I smoke clove cigarettes, and I've heard that they're safer than smoking regular cigarettes. I know that conventional cigarettes have so many toxic chemicals in them, while clove cigarettes are more natural. Isn't that better for me?

Hi there,

I think clove cigarette and the regular cigarettes are just as bad.Along with tobacco, there are over 600 chemicals added to cigars and cigarettes.

When a cigar or cigarette is lit,the burning end produces over 4000 toxic substances including 43 that are known to cause cancer. Several of the chemicals that are added to tobacco products are listed as hazardous materials that are so toxic they are not allowed to be disposed of in landfills.

Examples of chemicals added or produced by cigarettes and cigars include:

• Arsenic

• Acetic Acid

• Acetone

• Ammonia

• Benzene

• Cadmium

• Carbon Monoxide

• Formaldehyde

• Hydrazine

• Hydrogen Cyanide

• Naphthalene

• Nickel

• Phenol

• Polonium

May we all lead a healthy and meaningful life.

Peace.

Clove cigarettes, or kreteks, are dangerous just as cigarettes are dangers. They are made up of a mixture of both tobacco and the spice cloves.

Since they contain tobacco they produce tobacco smoke which contains over 4,000 chemicals. About half of these chemicals are found naturally in the tobacco leaf and half are created when tobacco is burned.
