The Value of Support When You Quit Smoking

Solid, constructive support is essential to a successful quit program.

It has been reported that approximately 7 percent of those who quit without support are still smoke-free a year later. With the help of like-minded people however, those odds can be much better, as can be seen at the support forum here at About Smoking Cessation. This outstanding online community has members at all stages of smoking cessation. From newcomer to those with several smoke-free years under their belts, the support available there is second to none.

Fix yourself a cup of tea and stop in to do some reading. You'll quickly understand why this group is so special, and why we so many of our members find long-term success with smoking cessation.

Feeling Depressed and Lonely
"I haven´t smoked for the past 68 hours, almost 3 days! I used to smoke between 30 and 40 cigarettes a day. Thing is i feel really depressed. Since i quit i just feel like crying most of the time. I was expecting cravings, maybe mood swings, but not depression. Has anyone felt like this after quitting?"

Three Months of Freedom!
I have three months smoke free under my belt. Pinch me I’m dreaming! How did I get here? Sometimes, I haven’t got a clue. It is a winding road this quitting business, with all the highs and lows, the cravings and frustrations. However, to greet each day without reaching for a cigarette is well worth all the blood, sweat, and tears....and weight gain."

Quitting in Tough Times
Why am I quitting smoking now? I'm part of the new unemployment statistics....and just can't afford to smoke. The newly unemployed status is highly stressful, quitting smoking is highly stressful, but I am trying to view this all as an opportunity to reinvent myself and become more authentically me...which includes quitting smoking!"
