The Bidi - a Cigarette with Training Wheels

Sunday May 17, 2009
Referred to as cigarettes with training wheels by health authorities, the overall appearance and taste of bidi cigarettes is especially appealing to young smokers. Typically tied on one or both ends with string, bidis are produced in a wide variety of flavors, including chocolate, mango, vanilla, lemon-lime, mint, pineapple and cherry.

A few startling facts about bidi cigarettes:

  • Bidi cigarettes contain more than three times the amount of nicotine and carbon monoxide as traditional cigarettes.
  • Bidi cigarettes contain five times as much tar as regular cigarettes.
  • Bidi smokers have a greater risk of heart disease, lung cancer and other cancers.
