Three Months Smoke-Free

Follow me on:

For most ex-smokers, the three month mark in smoking cessation is a rocky period. We're still early in our quit programs and have much healing ahead of us, yet feel impatient to be through with the recovery process. The three month time frame is so notorious for trouble that there is even a term coined for it: The Icky Threes.

Understanding The Icky Threes

I'd like to introduce Kay, a member of our smoking cessation forum here at About.com. Kay recently celebrated three months smoke free and has been good enough to share her perspectives on early smoking cessation with readers.

While her quit program is still relatively new, I can hear solid resolve in her words. Her attitude is where it needs to be and with time, I have no doubt Kay will find the freedom from nicotine addiction that she's working so hard to achieve.

I just want to relate with the synapse tearing. When I quit smoking I cried all the time. A softer side seems to have emerged after smoking for 32 years and being a little hard bit. I am happily crying at the end of sad movies. And I am happily quit for 1 year solid with a small slip up. I am back on track thank goodness.
