Between the physical addiction to nicotine and the mental associations that tie what seems like all of our activities to cigarettes, it can feel as though we're chained to the habit with links of steel.
Successful recovery from nicotine addiction includes learning how to hear the message behind the urge to smoke and respond with more appropriate choices, such as a nap or a meal if you're tired or hungry.
Arm yourself with knowledge! You'll find you're able to navigate withdrawal from nicotine much more easily with a little education about what to expect.

This is the end of the third day of not smoking cigarettes. I have been doing so since the age of 15. I am now 35 years old. I have tried to quit so many times before and have always desired to quit for good. This is the longest I have chosen not to do so on my own (w/o force). I am using a nicotine patch, faith in God, and spiritual music to help me through the withdrawl pains and doubts. Now I can smell the old stink of past cigarettes smoked in every room of my apartment and it’s gross!! I have started placing the money that I would’ve spent on each pack of cigarettes into a jar to reward myself for each day I don’t smoke. I feel better. I don’t ever want to light up ever again. The thought of doing so makes me feel sick and defiant. Me and cigarettes have come to a happy ending. Thank you, Jesus!!! Good luck to everyone who is on the road to quitting or are still dealing with all of the triggers that make you want to smoke. I am with you in the struggle. We can do it.
