World No Tobacco Day 2010

Today marks the 23rd celebration of World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), a global initiative designed to raise awareness about the hazards of tobacco use.  Since its inception in 1987 by the World Health Organization,  WNTD  has been observed on May 31st of every year.

WNTD 2010 --Gender and Tobacco With an Emphasis on Marketing to Women

Each year, WNTD highlights a different facet of the dangers we face from tobacco use. These efforts to raise awareness on a global level are powerful stepping stones that will help break the hold that Big Tobacco has on us.

This week I'd like to introduce you to Carol Southard, RN, MSN. Carol is a Tobacco Cessation Consultant with 25 years of experience in helping people quit smoking. I had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about how to build a successful quit program recently and she has generously shared some tips for us here.

If you're ready to quit smoking, why not choose WNTD to mark the beginning of your own independence from tobacco.
