Aptly named "Hell Week" by those who have been there, the first week of smoking cessation is best approached with some knowledge about what to expect. There are tricks to managing the discomforts of nicotine withdrawal, and with a little preparation, you'll probably find you are able to weather this phase of quitting tobacco better than you expected.

  • Help on Day Three
" I quit smoking 3 days ago it's only starting to hit me now. My mate  keeps saying I won't do it but I am so strong about this I will. Today I am getting bad pains in my stomach and a voice keeps telling me to just have one smoke but I am not listening to it. I want to give up for my kids and me;  I want to see my kids get older."
  • Six Years Quit
"It's interesting to look back over the past (I've kept every milestone post) and see your own evolution. Regarding my quit, those first few weeks were all raw pain and anxiety. Luckily, that part didn't last, and things got easier day by day. "
  • When Does the Peace Come?
"Today is a tough day. Yesterday wasn't much better. All I can think about is smoking. I don't want to light up. And if offered one right this minute I would refuse. I know why I quit and I am strong in that quit. I guard it with My life because it IS My life. But I am in a BAD mood. I couldn't sleep last night and I can't sleep today."

Even though I officially quit smoking in March, 2010, I’m still having a hard time. Instead of being addicted to cigarettes, I’m addicted to nicotine lozenges. When I try to go without a lozenge, my muscles become stiff and I cannot relax.
