Doomed to Miss Smoking Forever?

A reader asks:

I quit smoking 7 months ago. I do feel better, and I don't struggle all of the time now, but I still have days where I find myself missing my cigarettes and wishing I could have just one now and then. Sometimes the urge to smoke is intense, and it depresses me. I wonder if I'll ever be free of this habit! Will I miss smoking forever?

Recovery from nicotine addiction is a process of gradual release over time.

Every smoke free day you complete is teaching you how to live your life without cigarettes. Bit by bit, you're reprogramming your responses to the daily events that trigger the urge to smoke. The more practice you get, the less urges will plague you.

So what is it you miss about smoking? The smell? The taste?
The way it made you feel ‘normal’ (which non-smokers somehow manage without the use of cigarettes, or the need FOR cigarettes 24 hours a day)?
Something to do when you were bored (except that smoking in itself is a boring act of standing around sucking on a stick for 5 minutes – what fun)?
You shouldn’t regret the decision you made, you should rejoice in the fact you don’t smoke any more. Can you honestly say there is one thing you TRULY miss about smoking?
I used to smoke 20+ a day. I quit a month ago. I hang out with friends who smoke, I watch smoking on TV/Films, do I miss it? Hell NO!
