The statistics are sobering: tobacco use is stealing human lives at the rate of 13,700 people worldwide, day in and day out.  That adds up to approximately 5 million people annually.  According to the World Health Organization, one billion lives will be lost to tobacco-related disease this century unless serious global anti-smoking measures are taken.  On a personal level, these statistics mean that most of us, if we live long enough, will be touched by this epidemic of disease and death sweeping the planet.

About.com Smoking Cessation support forum member, Susan (phoebemagnolia) recently lost her husband and as part of the healing process, wrote out an account about his battle with smoking-related disease.
