According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 226,160 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed during 2012 in the United States. Of that number, 160,340 people are expected to lose their lives to the disease.
Lung cancer is the most deadly cancer in the U.S. today, and it is also the most preventable. Cigarette smoking is by far the biggest risk factor, but cigar and pipe smoking increases lung cancer risk as well.
