I've smoked for most of my adult life. Sometimes I wonder if it's too late for quitting to be of any benefit for me. Is the damage already done?
With years of smoking under our belts, it's hard to imagine that quitting can do us much good, but it can. In fact, benefits begin within 20 mintues of the last cigarette and continue on for years.
Immediate improvements in health often include:
- better breathing
- less coughing
- more energy
- better rest and sleep
- fewer illnesses - colds, flu, etc.
- better circulation
In addition, self-esteem gets a big boost when we accomplish significant goals in our lives, and for most people, smoking cessation is one of the biggest. Over and over again I see folks come away from this process with a heightened appreciation of their lives along with a willingness to take on new challenges. The benefits abound!
Regardless of your age or how many years you've smoked, you can expect quitting tobacco to improve your life in a variety of ways. Don't waste any more time on a habit that destroys life. You are worth so much more!
