Dave's Quit Story
And last, but certainly not least, is our only moderator of the male persuasion, Dave. Fondly referred to as Deputy around the forum, Dave has been a member here since 2004 and is known for his big heart, his level head, and his wonderful sense of humor. He's a straight-shooter, and you can always count on him to be honest and fair with you. What more could one ask for in a moderator?!
From Dave:
- "At one point in 2003 I told myself that I would never quit. I would smoke til my death, which I knew would come sooner if I continued, but I was so firmly wrapped up in it that I couldn't see a way out. I recall going to bed one night and praying. I'm not a very religious guy, mind you, but that night I prayed. I just asked God to take away the cravings. No timetable, no expectations, no demands. I just asked...that's all.
On June 19th 2004, I had a doctors appointment for a stomach ailment. On the way home I lit a smoke and had the conscious thought that this was the last smoke that I wanted. I put the remainder of the pack in the garbage and have not had a puff since."
You know, while putting these moderator profiles together, I've been struck by just how fortunate I am to have such an outstanding group of forum hosts working with me -- all of whom fully embrace and exemplify the life-saving mission of this forum. We are all fortunate to have these fine people watching over the functioning of our powerful community of winners, and I, for one, have the utmost respect for each and every one of them. Thanks, mods!
