My life as a smoker
I started smoking at 13 years old. I wanted to be cool!
I was smoking a pack a day by the time I quit smoking.
I smoked for 25 years.
Why and how I quit smoking
I wanted to quit many times and finally took Chantix. It worked! I quit smoking November 3, 2009. I did not like the smell, the cost, the awful looks from others and what it was doing to my health. I did not ever think that I would be able to go a day without one and now it has been almost 3 months since my last cigarette.
Advice
- Take one day at a time.
- Make a list of the pros of not smoking and go over them when you need a push.
Terry Martin, Smoking Cessation Guide, says:
Cynthia's story is all too common. Many of us start smoking in our teen years as a way to fit in, not realizing that we are signing on to what usually turns into decades of addiction. Thankfully, we live in a time when there are a multitude of quit aids available to help us break the hold nicotine addiction has on us.If you're still smoking, research and select your quit aid/method of approach, add some support and education, and get started. If at first you don't succeed...
...learn from what went wrong and try again.
Most smokers have a few failed quit attempts under their belts prior to finding the quit that fits for life. Work on making your resolve to quit smoking solid, and nothing will be able to stop you.
