I will officially hit my two month mark at 9:40 pm pst tonight, but since I have a real hard time getting in here on weekends, I wanted to go ahead and post this milestone.

First of all, may I say thank you Christine for creating this forum, and thank you to everyone who has helped keep me smoke free since May 23, 2004. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Ok, so now I’m not really sure whether or not two months equals 14 months in dawg years, or if it only equals 2/7 of a month…

Now, for all of you who have read, and are tired of, my long boring milestone posts, this is the time for you to hit “reply” and send a quick congratulatory note so you won’t have to suffer.

For those of you who are still here, “you were warned”.

As a little bit of background to this upcoming post; early in my quit, getting away from cigarettes always felt a little like I was trying to get out of orbit. In previous quits, it was as if I had turned off my rockets (momentum & commitment) too soon, and I had gotten pulled back in by the nicotine gravity.

I talked to BW about it on many occasions, and sais I just need to keep not smoking, and sooner or later, I will be out of this self-destructive orbit, and nicotine will no longer have an effect on me. While I may not be quite there yet, I am well on my way, as the demon is weaker and weaker and has very very little effect on me anymore.

So anyway, the getting out of orbit theme naturally made me think of David Bowie, and his song, ’Ground Control to Major Tom’ (naturally, whatever you say, Dawg). And out of that very lucid thinking, `Weed Control to Major Dawg’ was born (I apologize to those too young to remember the song, or who are from countries where they did not play it). I have kept the integrity of the lyrical flow, and did not add any verses, though I was sorely tempted (I truly felt like all of you people have suffered enough). So, with apologies to David Bowie and your sensibilities, but with no further adieu, here is Weed Control to Major Dawg in e minor.

Weed Control to Major Dawg, Weed Control to Major Dawg

Smoke your cigarette and sit there in your fog

Weed Control to Major Dawg, Commencing countdown, lighter’s on

Start inhaling and may numbness be with you

This is Weed Control to Major Dawg, you’ve really made the grade

Soon they’ll roll you iiinnn to intensive care

Or you could try to leave this safe zone if you dare

This is Major Dawg to Weed Control, I’m stepping through the door

And I’m breathing in a most peculiar way

And the smells are very different today

For here am I far away from nicotine, high on clean air

Planet tar is black, and I’m never going back

    Bridge

Tho my journey’s barely just begun, I’m feeling very free

And I think my forum friends know where to go

Tell my wife I love her very much, she knows

    Weed Control to Major Dawg

Your circuit’s dead there’s something wrong,

Can you hear me Major Dawg

Can you hear me Major Dawg

Can you hear me Major Dawg, Can you…

Here am I far away from nicotine, high on clean air

Planet tar is black and I’m never going back.
Now is where I go through my customary ritual of “cringe, move cursor, close eyes and click on post”.
