The Great American Smokeout

Definition: Every year since 1976, the third Thursday in November has marked the celebration of the Great American Smokeout (GASO), hosted by the American Cancer Society.

Meant to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking, the Great American Smokeout challenges Americans to quit smoking for this one day, and from there, perhaps permanently kick smoking out of their lives. Many thousands of people have done just that, using the GASO as the start of a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle.
